Scott Walker Has Plans To Improve State’s Deer Herd – News Talk 97.5FM and 1360AM
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker says he would hire an independent auditor to keep tabs on Wisconsin’s deer herd.
After buying a hunting license in Milwaukee Thursday, Walker said many hunters have lost faith in the DNR’s deer management practices. And he said he would take politics out of deer issues by having a trustee make changes.
Walker also says he’d like to put more animals in the woods, saying he’s been hunting for 3 or 4 years and he’s tired not seeing a deer. The DNR says it’s already using outside experts to monitor the agency’s deer management – including its estimates of the herd and the way it tries to stop the spread of chronic wasting disease.
