Stalking gobblers in Georgia, this video begins with us sitting in a blind with our trusty guide Darren Berrong of the Hicktown Hunting channel on YouTube. Darren makes some pretty good hunting videos, and this one is no exception. This was shot in a beautiful wooded area (he doesn’t identify it).
On this outing, we share Darren’s “very first turkey kill with a bow.” He’s a veteran hunter, but a newbie with a crossbow. His weapon of choice for this special moment is a Barnett Predator. His choice of ammo: the Muzzy MX-3 broadhead. Decoys are placed in the woods near Darren’s blind in an attempt to attract some meaty toms.
Darren does his turkey call from within the blind. The decoys and the call eventually work, as two toms get within lethal range of the Barnett Predator. In super slow motion, we witness the arrow do its damage.
Now, at this point I will warn non-hunters and vegans to turn away from their computer screens. The first arrow hits a big tom, but does not kill it. The bird hops off screen, wounded and confused. I have no problem with that. It’s what happens in the natural world. Just ask any wildebeest his opinion of lions or hyenas. Here’s another thing that happens in nature: The predator gets big fat meaty dinner. I wonder what kind of wine Darren served with that turkey.
